Busy Lives, the Beach and Back to Blogging and School (sort of)…

Uncategorized | September 6, 2013 | By

Phew, it feels like a while since I’ve blogged. We’ve been busy the last week and half or so…..

First, we took an impromptu Labor Day weekend vacation to my husband’s family cottage on Lake Michigan. We are SO blessed to have such a beautiful location so close (just over an hours’ drive) from us. If you have never been to the beaches of Lake Michigan, you might not believe that it looks JUST like the ocean, except without jellyfish or salt water. It’s so great.

Here’s what it looks like on a windy day:

Lake - waves

And on a calm day:

cottage - day

And in the evening we get THE BEST sunsets:

This cool t-shirt is a good map of Michigan – and about half-way up the left side (west coast) of Michigan is where the cottage is:41VqlyWYnIL._SL190_CR0,0,190,246_

It’s relaxing up there and there is no internet (except I DID figure out how to do the hotspot thing with my phone to use my computer for just a bit). When you are at the cottage, though, using your computer just feels out of place.

It’s such a place of peace and quiet and relaxation. It was a perfect ending to summer. We ate lots of Real Food, especially s’mores. Mmm….that definitely fits into the 20 part of the 80/20 rule that we try to follow!

Secondly, my kids went back to school on Tuesday. I have one in 5th, 4th and 1st grade and my youngest is 3 1/2 and is still home. They went back on Tuesday and Wednesday and then a dreaded announcement….

Our city’s water treatment plant (and therefore the city water) was contaminated with E. Coli.

We live in the city and our kids’ school is in the city.

Which meant school was cancelled.

Which meant I tried not to cry. Especially when it was cancelled 2 DAYS IN A ROW. UGH!

Our 5th grader was adopted last year and while all of them do better with structure, he especially needs it. So these last 2 days off have been less-than-ideal (translation: I’m trying to maintain my sanity).

Thankfully we got the “all clear” today so school will resume on Monday. We REALLY love our kids’ school – it’s small, the teachers are top-notch and there is a great sense of community.

So, next week when things return to normal, I hope to be blogging more regularly again….except I am scheduled for jury duty, so who knows?

First up will be an EASY, simple recipe for beets. If you don’t like beets or have never tried them, this will be a recipe for you!

Until then….blessings to you!

Melissa
