Real Food in the Real World: My Story (guest post at Unmistakably Food!)

My kitchen! It’s not very big, but to make the best use of space (and for decoration!) I used big glass jars on the top shelf to store my dried beans, lentils, etc. I keep easy snack options in glass jars on my counter – organic popcorn, raisins and crispy nuts.

This post is a guest post/interview I did over at Unmistakably Food for her “Real Food in the Real World” series!  I wanted to share it with all of you, too! I hope you’ll find it helpful and informative. Here’s her questions and my answers:

About Me: I am married with 4 kids – 3 boys, and 1 girl (ages 9, 8, 6 and 2.5 – we recently adopted our oldest). We live in West Michigan. I am also an RN and my hubby is a pastor. I enjoy eating, cooking, sharing info about Real Food with others, handing out at the local coffee shop, reading, playing the piano and dreaming about having a small farm some day! I also co-run our local Buyer’s Club and am on the board of our local chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation.

1. Tell us about your passion for real food. Why do you eat the way you eat? We previously lived in Washington state for 6 years and that is where I was introduced to the nutrition information from the Weston A. Price foundation, through a friend. We also had noticed some food-related health challenges with our kids and made the gradual switch to “real food” – meaning no processed food, only natural sweeteners like honey, sucanat and coconut sugar, and only the “good” oils. After making this switch I noticed easy weight loss for myself, less sickness and more energy for all of us!

2. What, in your opinion, are the top five “healthiest foods” that you include regularly in your diet?……

Great post!  Where did you get the big/little jars you use for storage in your kitchen?  I have been on the search for jars like that with screw on or flip lids.

@rayrayb14 Thanks – the big jars I got from Azure Standard. When i lived out in WA, the buying club I was a part of ordered from that company (lots of great stuff, mostly food, but they had these great, large jars with lids). The small ones on my counter I found when we cleaned out my grandma’s house – from the Koeze Nut Company! I bet a thrift store would have some good treasures…..
