My Buying Club and What I Got in My Green PolkaDot Box Today! (plus the winner of the $25 Laptop Lunches giveaway!)

By | Books & Resources | No Comments

Many of you may know that I organize a local Buying Club. It has been a GREAT way to get higher quality food for better prices. Basically a bunch of families band together and order in larger amounts, therefore getting better prices and free delivery. (You can read more about why you’d want to Join a Buying Club here).

One of the sources that we have been shopping with is a newer, online company called the Green PolkaDot Box. I love them because they are non-GMO and most of their products are organic.*Update: I now shop with Thrive Market, with better prices! They also give a family in need a FREE membership with each normally purchased one. Check out Thrive Market here!

Here’s a picture of what I got. Now, it’s a little more “processed” food that I usually buy, but it’s a compromise. It is all organic and GMO-free and I can recognize all of the ingredients. With 3 of my 4 kids in school, I needed a stash of easy-to-grab snack items for those moments when you need an option quickly.

In my box today, I got:

• Late July cheddar crackers and organic peanut butter crackers

• Annie’s organic mac & cheese

• a jar of organic kombucha (I haven’t yet gotten into making my own, but I know I should)

• organic raspberry jam

• canned organic garbanzo beans (because I forgot to order the 5lb bag of dried ones through our other buying club source! AH! It would mean living without Homemade Hummus!)

• tomato paste in glass jars (it avoids the BPA-lined cans)

• recyclable paper plates (to use for an upcoming birthday party celebration, instead of having to do dishes)

AND, last but not least….

• organic, Vitamin C lollipops. These are all-out bribes for my 2 1/2 year old son who so far has refused to potty train. At all. We’ll see if they work.

ALSO, I want to share who the winner of the $25 gift certificate from Laptop Lunches is:

 Congrats to Entry #322 – Kelly T.

Kelly and I have already been in touch and she is looking forward to spending her $25 on their site.

Thank you to all who entered. Please top over at the Laptop Lunches site and do some more looking (and SHOPPING) around!

Mom's Healthy Market

Stephanie , the founder of Mom’s Healthy Market, asked if I could help them out by doing a review of their new(ish) site! I happily obliged especially when she said she’d love to give one of you a great giveaway prize. I’ll tell you what it is in a minute because FIRST I’d love to tell you about their site:

This site is so fun! In a nutshell they promote healthy kids and healthy parenting and sell organic foods, toys and baby options. If you are like me and read all of the scary news stories that at times inform us about toys containing harmful ingredients and lead (among other things), or worry about toys being over- or under-stimulating, this is the place for you. You will be happy to know that all of their toys and baby products are organic, “green” and non-toxic.

And not only do they they have great offerings for your home and kid needs, my hands-down two favorite sections are the ones titled “Organic Pantry” and “Healthy Cooking”! I love that they focus on real and more nourishing food as they mention in their “About” section:

Mom’s Healthy Market Real Foods Buying Guide: We encourage you to seek out ‘whole foods’, buy local and cook from scratch as much as possible. The sugar-filled, processed and packaged foods with artificial flavors and colors available to us in grocery stores are not healthy for our children and don’t give them the vitamins and minerals they need. Even products that claim ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ still may be misleading to some. The selection of foods available on this site that have been approved by Registered Dietitians as healthy for children and have been selected for their high nutritional content as labels with our dietitian icon (see legend) for a more reliable shopping experience.

They offer everything from bulk dried beans and sprouted nuts, to raw organic honey, pasta and flours! ALSO, you’ll want to check out their “Articles” tab for some great articles on raising healthy kids (I was especially excited to see that they give a shout-out to the Weston A. Price Foundation on their list of Healthy Links!)
Okay, here’s the giveaway part. I am using a new way to do a giveaway called “Rafflecopter”. It’s pretty self-explanatory, just hit the “I did it” button for each thing you do to enter!!!
Stephanie has graciously offered to give away 6 (12oz) bags of this to the ONE LUCKY WINNER and is offering all of you 15% off of your first order – use coupon code TOW15 at check-out to receive that:
Love Grown Foods Oat Clusters & Love Granola Cranberry Pecan
